Ink Mixing-:  You do NOT need any mixative.  Just mix the colors together.

Mixing white is called that because it isn’t as opaque as a standalone white would be.  It’s used for lightening up other colors.  If you want to make pink, you would use the tomotto and the mixing white.

CAN use it alone?  Totally!  However, it’s a bit sheer so just keep that in mind. If you have used blending white vs titanium white in acrylic artists paints it is kind of like that.

The empties are for creating your own color mixes and storing them. You would not apply directly to pads.  You would create your color by adding the appropriate amounts to an empty bottle and then label it on the white part of the label. Then you could ink your pads with your custom color.

I like using a white palette material to use drops to mix and test colors, so you don’t waste ink and you are able to keep track of your “recipe”.

For example: For Eggplant, use 2 drops of china blue, and one drop of tomotto, one drop of black.  This is not a completely accurate recipe…. I’m just using as an example off top of head!   Then recreate, 2 parts china blue, one part tomotto, one part black.

We are really looking forward to all of the amazing recipes and palettes you all create and share. The inks are bright and saturated, because it’s easy to desaturated and lighten but not the opposite.

For example:  I tend towards deeper and slightly more muted, but thats easy to do by adding a drop of black.   EDIT: we planned the palette so that a full range of color can be achieved with mixing. While the tomotto, turmeric and china blue are not truly primary (technically).  We aimed to get close to primary for mixing range, but to be prettier on their own than true primary, so they are good standalone.
